Francisco José Pomares Rodríguez was born in Madrid in 1957 and has lived in the Canary Islands for fifty years. A doctor in History from the ULPGC and Graduated in History and Master in Journalism from the University of La Laguna, he is also a professor of journalism at the Faculty of Political, Social and Communication Sciences of this University, and a journalist since 1977.
During his long career, he has collaborated with various Spanish media, such as Antena 3 and the the SER Network, and has written for national and international newspapers (Diario 16, El País, El Mundo, Liberation, Il Corriere, Dialogo Nord -Sud), general information magazines (Cambio 16, Magazine, El Socialista, Temas) and specialized magazines (El Viejo Topo, Leviatán), covering conflict situations in Central America and the Maghreb area.
At present, he is president and director of Ediciones Idea, a Canarian publishing house created in 1989, which has more than four thousand titles in its catalog.
Passionate about cinema and comics, since 2014 he has been a member of the board of the association Charlas de Cine and in 2016 he was elected president of the Foundation for the promotion and study of narrative in images [CINE + COMIC], and responsible for the organization of Santa Cruz Comic (Tenerife International Comic and Illustration Festival, as well as the International Congress of the Foundation for which it is responsible, both on an annual basis.
Since May 2020, he is responsible for the Moebius Chair. Comic and narrative in images dependent from the University of La Laguna (Sta. Cruz de Tenerife).
