Tuoni Myllylä is an artist from Turku who has worked in comics for over 15 years. They got into the field mainly out of love for the format and a need to tell stories they would like to read as well. Black-and-white comics have always been Myllylä’s preferred way of storytelling, although they have given in to modern conveniences somewhat and now primarily work digitally, using ink and paper less. Despite having created a wide range of comics and illustration work, their heart lies most with various genre comics, which are still surprisingly rare in Finland. Myllylä’s inspirations are mostly rooted in the world of film, especially horror genres, which are surprisingly versatile and provide storytellers with ample space to expand their perspectives. Myllylä approaches their work with a relaxed and gentle attitude and opposes perfectionism as a working principle, as they prefer to read more comics from their favorite creators rather than news about their burnout.
