TIMO MÄKELÄ

Timo Mäkelä is a 74-year-old comic artist and illustrator, as well as a political cartoonist for Ilta-Sanomat. Since 1997, he has published around 20 comic books. His longest-running newspaper comic strip is Minun elämäni (My Life), which was published in Helsingin Sanomat from 2001 to 2013. He received the Puupäähattu award in 1989.

In the autumn of 2025, his comic book Eugen ja Sigrid will be published. It tells the story of the Schauman siblings, born in the 1870s. Eugen ended up shooting governor-general Bobrikov and himself in 1904. Sigrid lived until 1979, reaching the age of 109, and rose to the forefront of Finnish art with her luminous, colorful, and surreal paintings.
