Finnish Comics Society has organised the Helsinki Comics Festival since 1979. Every year, the festival features a diverse programme consisting of interviews, panel discussions, gallery exhibitions, workshops, signings, performances, music, street food and clubs. The main festival area hosts established publishers’ sales tables, as well as the small press and self-publishing event Zine Fest. All talks can also be attended in the main festival area, while exhibitions are spread all over the city. Every year a Finnish comics creator is asked to create the visual identity of the festival. The festival is organised partly by volunteers.
