Sami Nyyssölä is a comics artist from Oulu, known for works such as Learn Finnish Without Studying and Be Finnish Without Suffering, which explore Finnish language and culture. He has also created the science fiction comics novels focused on climate science Hiilijalanjälkeen jääneet and Ilmastopakolaisen käsikirja (The Climate Refugee’s Manual).

His book Olet mitä luet (You Are What You Read) is a non-fiction work that aims to explain how comics are understood better than Scott McCloud’s approach. Driven by Nyyssölä’s desire to clarify comics reading, the meta-comic reveals the illusions of reading and, through examples from recent research, demonstrates how understanding occurs for readers.
